Monstrous spinach from Viroflay is a very old variety of spinach, rustic and precocious. As its name suggests, its leaves are very wide, fleshy. Spinach is a valuable leafy vegetable in the winter, when green vegetables are scarce, it is remineralising, anti-anaemia (iron) and rich in vitamins!

Description

Viroflay Monstrous Spinach – Heirloom Seeds / Rare seeds

Sowing: March to April or August to September (with sunny exposure)

Harvest: May to November

Soil: likes cool soils. In dry soil, prefer the Tétragone. Location: Spinach prefers humid and cool climates: it bolts if it is too hot. Prefer partial shade to full sun if your land is a little dry. Mulching will help maintain good humidity at the foot. Ideally, spinach likes calcareous, rich and well-drained soils. The ideal sowing time for spinach is in early spring and late summer for winter varieties. Spinach does not like heat and bolts quickly. It is sown directly in the ground: Dig 2 to 3 furrows cm deep with the handle of your rake, sow your spinach seeds in a row, cover lightly with soil, tamp down with the back of the rake and water in a fine rain. Thin the plants as soon as they have 3 or 4 leaves, keeping the best ones, so as to have a plant every 8/10 cm. Water regularly. Harvest: Spinach matures in 2 to 2.5 months. You can either pick the leaves one by one or tear the plant entirely from the ground. Frequent pickings will cause new leaves to appear.
