NON-EDIBLE DECORATIVE SQUASH!

Amphora Squash – Heirloom Seeds / Rare seeds

Sowing: April to May

Harvest: September to October

Cucurbitaceous seeds are sensitive to low temperatures! In north of the Loire, it is preferable to grow the Amphora Squash in a greenhouse. You can sow the seeds in the ground around mid-May, after the frosts (after the Ice Saints). Prepare a well loosened soil, and after enriching it with manure or compost, dig a hole 2 cm deep every 1.20 m, sow 2-3 seeds in each hole, cover lightly with soil and tamp. Water in fine rain. Keep moist until first leaves appear approx. 10 days later. Prune your plants above 3 to 4 leaves. Each flower will give a fruit. Avoid watering the foliage so as not to create too much humidity responsible for powdery mildew (fungi). You can advance your crop by sowing in April (no more than 2 to 3 weeks before transplanting!) in pots of potting soil 1/3 manure or compost, 2 to 3 seeds per bucket, to be stored at 18-20° minimum! It is advisable to mulch to keep the soil moist and space out weeding. If you want it to have a straight neck, it is important to stake the foot of the squash
